DHS works directly with farmers who cultivate coffee that is High Grown (HG) or Strictly High Grown (SHG), at altitudes above 700 meters.
Our current coffee comes from the South Central part of Haiti, between Jacmel and Thiotte, an area which produces some of the best, high altitude coffee in all of Haiti. Typically not sought out by US buyers do to it's remote location, South Central Haitian coffee is relatively unknown outside of Haiti. The region is dominated by Le Visite National park, one of two national parks in Haiti, with peaks above 2,000 meters Formed by volcanic action, the slope of this region are perfect for coffee cultivation.
The coffee is a micro-lot, Baie D'Orange Hierloom Arabica Typica, from the town of Baie D'Orange, Haiti. Baie D'Orange is 1300 meters above sea level, which allows this coffee to be considered Strictly High Grown and ideal for great coffee.
Currently we are providing coffee with the following parameters:
Roasting Notes: Typical S-Curve roast, 15 +/-, rolling 2nd crack with about 15% moisture loss
Aroma: Cinnamon & spicy, with hints of almond, vanilla, and chocolate
Taste: Full body, slightly sweet, with a clean finish
